[The response gets a relieved little smile. At least, up until the questions start up again. Because they're questions that remind her just how little she actually knows about this kind of stuff. Her track record when it comes to dating is far from perfect. And as for the rest?

She takes a long, long sip of her coffee to fill the silence and think. It had been much easier to just jump into bed last night.]

He's patient. [Kate blinks, a little surprised by the first words to leave her mouth. If asked, she wouldn't necessarily describe her ideal guy as "patient."] I mean, he didn't ask me when I...

I froze a few times, okay? But he just whispered words of reassurance and made me feel, I don't know, like it was okay to be doing everything we did? That I shouldn't be ashamed or afraid anymore.

[Billy nods, understanding her plight despite not understanding the issue itself. He knows well and truly how meaningful it is to have a patient partner when you yourself are feeling overwhelmed with doubts. He's glad Kate was able to hook up with someone like that.]

That's good. I mean, it is okay. Saving yourself for the person you love is fine, too - like, it worked for Teddy and me - but there's no shame in having fun, either. It's not like you're tied at the hip just because you slept together.

[He can't really speak from experience, since now that he has Teddy he doesn't feel like sleeping around, but in the past it sounded kind of fun. He can just live vicariously through Kate, now.]

[Love is a four letter word that terrifies her, if she’s being honest with herself. Even though she knows that it’s probably best to take this all one step at a time, that sleeping together once (okay, three times if you count getting each other off on the Tunnel of Love ride) means nothing. But she still falls quiet at his response, sipping at her coffee and thinking.]

I don’t want to sleep around. [It takes a moment or two to reach that conclusion, but when she does, she says the words clearly and without a hint of doubt.] I think I just want to sleep with Simon again. And again.

[Ha... well, that's pretty telling. Billy smirks, though not unkindly. It's good. It's really good to see that she's found something - someone - that makes her this happy.]

[She shrugs. It's a talk they're probably going to have to have sometime soon. Is this just fun? Or are they going to see where this takes them?

The prospect both leaves her with nerves and excitement all at once. Hawkeyes generally aren't known for their relationship skills. She certainly isn't. But, if something did come of this? It could be fun, couldn't it?]

I don't know yet. I guess we'll see? Whatever it is, I promise that you'll be the first to know.

Hey, just promise you'll tell me whatever you're comfortable with, and I'll be happy. But if it does get serious in a good way I'll be glad to congratulate you. And if you need somebody to rant at, I'm here for that, too.

[Relationships are equal parts wonderful and frustrating no matter how much you love the person, and he remembers all too well the awkwardness of starting out.]
